Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU)

Ontwikkelt u bio-based producten? Goed nieuws; het succesvolle Europese programma Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) wordt opgevolgd door Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU). Dit betekent nieuwe subsidiekansen voor bio-based innovaties. Het programma valt onder Horizon Europe en loopt vanaf 2021 tot en met 2031.

Wat kan CBE JU voor u én Europa betekenen?

U kunt subsidie krijgen vanuit CBE JU waarmee u uw bio-based innovatie kunt realiseren. Hiermee reduceert u ook het financiële risico van uw project. Daarnaast brengt u met uw innovatie Europa een stap dichter bij een schonere, duurzamere en circulaire wereld. Hernieuwbare bio-based producten en materialen zijn namelijk een belangrijke schakel in de overgang naar klimaatneutraliteit.

Voor wie is de subsidie?

CBE JU brengt allerlei partijen uit de bio-based industrie bij elkaar; van boeren tot onderzoekers. Private en publieke samenwerkingsverbanden kunnen een voorstel indienen voor CBE JU.

Doelen van CBE JU 2021-2031

Het nieuwe programma heeft als doel:

• Het versnellen van het innovatieproces en de ontwikkeling van innovatieve bio-based oplossingen;
• Het versnellen van de markttoepassing van de bestaande rijpe en innovatieve bio-based oplossingen;
• Zorgen voor een hoog niveau van milieuprestaties van industriële bio-based systemen.

Thema’s

Innovation actions – flagship (IA-flagship)

• Optimised and integrated woody-based value chains (€ 17 miljoen)
• Expansion and/or retro-fitting of biorefineries towards higher-value bio-based chemicals and intermediates (€ 17 miljoen)
• Bio-based packaging materials with improved properties: barrier, food contact, forming, printability, safety, recyclability/circularity-by-design (€ 17 miljoen)
• Valorisation of aquatic biomass waste and residues (€ 10 miljoen)

Innovation actions (IA)

• Small-scale biorefining in rural areas (€ 15 miljoen)
• Production of safe, sustainable, and efficient bio-based fertilisers to improve soil health and quality (€ 15 miljoen)
• Improve fermentation processes (including downstream purification) to final bio-based products (€ 15 miljoen)
• Recycling bio-based plastics increasing sorting and recycled content (upcycling) (€ 15 miljoen)
• Development of scalable, safe bio-based surfactants with an improved sustainability profile (€ 15 miljoen)
• Selective, sustainable production routes towards bio-based alternatives to fossil-based chemical building blocks (€ 15 miljoen)
• High performance, circular-by design, bio-based composites (€ 15 miljoen)

Research and innovation actions (RIA)

• Phyto-management; curing soil with industrial crops, utilising contaminated and saline land for industrial crop production (€ 10 miljoen)
• Optimised forest-based value chains for high-value applications and improved forest management (€ 10 miljoen)
• Robust and optimised industrial biotech and chemical/industrial biotech processes (€ 10 miljoen)
• Development of novel, high-performance bio-based polymers and co-polymers (€ 10 miljoen)
• Pre-normative research to develop standards for biodegradability of bio-based products in controlled and open environments (€ 5 miljoen)

Coordination and support actions (CSA)

• EU-wide network of pilot plants and testing facilities, improving SMEs and start-ups’ access to scale-up (€ 1,5 miljoen)
• Supporting the capacity of regions in environmental sustainability assessment for the bio-based sectors (€ 3 miljoen)
