Themes EUI grant 2026 announced: new opportunities for innovative cities
The themes for the European Urban Initiative (EUI) 2026 have been officially published. Based on these themes, cities within the EU are challenged to develop innovative solutions to urgent issues, with a strong focus on innovative actions. It is expected that applications can be submitted from February 2026 onwards.
EUI grant in 2026
The new EUI funding round is expected to open in February 2026, with a budget of approximately € 60 million. To be eligible for funding, your project must align with one of the six defined themes.

- Competitiveness, digitalisation, innovation and investment;
- Social inclusion and equality;
- Safety, security and preparedness;
- Affordable, sustainable, high-quality and inclusive housing and buildings;
- Climate action, environment and clean energy;
- Sustainable and smart mobility.
This once again allows cities to test innovative solutions at local level.
New support framework
With the new EUI funding round, a renewed support framework for urban innovation is being introduced. This call is aligned with current social, economic and ecological challenges, with a clear emphasis on experimental and scalable projects that can serve as examples for other European cities.
