Seven projects, one ambition: making Europe more sustainable

A look back at yet another intensive Innovation Fund round:

The past few months have been intensive, complex, and more than once nerve-wracking, but above all: meaningful and challenging. Hezelburcht supported seven projects in the recent round of the Innovation Fund. From large-scale industrial decarbonisation to a smaller-scale innovative project: each trajectory demanded full dedication and in-depth expertise. We look back on a round that challenged us as a team at the highest level, and that simultaneously demonstrates what is possible when you combine craftsmanship with ambition.

Hezelburcht offers comprehensive support in Innovation Fund

For all seven projects, Hezelburcht took full responsibility for the application. That means no partial support, but integral guidance through every component of the application. An Innovation Fund application comprises multiple parts, each requiring its own specialist knowledge. These include:

  • Part A – Administrative data: organisational details, legal structure, project partners, and compliance requirements
  • Part B – Technical project description: project description, degree of innovation, technical approach, and feasibility
  • GHG calculations
  • Business plan
  • Financial plan
  • Feasibility studies
  • Annexes for technical substantiation

The GHG calculations — greenhouse gas reductions that must be substantiated with precision — require both technical depth and knowledge of the European Commission’s assessment methodology. The business plan calls for a clear market vision and a compelling narrative around commercial viability. The financial plan, finally, must align with the project reality and meet stringent formal requirements.

Projects across Europe

The seven projects we supported this year are spread across the EU. That demands more than subject-matter knowledge alone: it requires an understanding of local industrial contexts, national regulations, and the specific challenges faced by companies in different countries. Our team navigated all of these challenges with ease, in close contact with the project owners and their teams.

Six of the seven projects fall within the large-scale category, meaning they involve substantial investments in groundbreaking clean technology. The seventh project is small-scale in its design, but no less ambitious in its objectives.

What this round teaches us

Every Innovation Fund round is an opportunity to see how far Europe is prepared to go in the transition towards a climate-neutral economy. The quality and diversity of the projects we were privileged to support this year give us cause for optimism. The applicants (companies, consortia, innovators) are taking genuine steps. Not on paper, but in electricity, steel, concrete, and hydrogen.

Hezelburcht is proud to have been a fully-fledged partner in all of these endeavours. Curious about what Hezelburcht could mean for your project in the next Innovation Fund round?
