Over € 300 million available for Horizon Europe Cluster 5: Climate, Energy and Mobility
The European Commission has published new calls for research proposals under the Horizon Europe 2025 Work Programme, Cluster 5: Climate, Energy & Mobility. In total, € 318 million in EU funding is available to support large-scale and innovative research projects focused on the energy sector.
New funding opportunities under Horizon Europe Cluster 5: Climate, Energy & Mobility
The budget is made available under two Destinations, covering no fewer than 20 topics. The two Destinations under call HORIZON-CL5-2026 are:
- Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply (HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D3)
- Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use (HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D4)
The deadline for submitting project proposals is 17 February 2026.
What is the Horizon Europe programme?
Horizon Europe is the EU’s research and innovation programme for 2021–2027, with a total budget of € 95.5 billion. The programme is implemented by, among others, CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency).
Horizon Europe consists of various clusters. Cluster 5 focuses on energy, climate and mobility, and contributes to the green and digital transition. The overall aim is to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050, while at the same time strengthening the competitiveness of the European economy.
The application process
Following the adoption of the Horizon Europe 2025 Work Programme, the European Commission has now launched calls under Cluster 5. If you wish to apply for funding for your innovation project, you can submit your proposal until 17 February 2026. Project proposals will then be assessed by independent experts from the European Commission’s database:
- Within 5 months of the deadline, applicants will receive the evaluation results;
- Within 8 months, grant agreements will be signed with the selected projects.
