New MSCA Calls in 2025 to Support Researcher Development

As of 8 May 2025, a new call has been launched under the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme. This opportunity enables experienced individual researchers to further develop and strengthen their skills through advanced research. A budget of over € 400 million has been made available. Applications can be submitted until 10 September 2025.

Who Can Apply for an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship?

Researchers who have completed a PhD may be eligible to apply for an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship. A key requirement is that applicants must have no more than eight years of research experience, excluding any time spent conducting research in non-European countries.

What Types of Projects Are Eligible?

The current call is open to the two types of projects in all scientific disciplines:

  • European Postdoctoral Fellowships: Open to researchers of any nationality to carry out tailored research projects within the EU or countries associated with Horizon Europe for up to 24 months.
  • Global Postdoctoral Fellowships: Open to nationals or long-term residents of EU or Horizon Europe associated countries who wish to undertake research with organisations in third countries, followed by a 12-month return phase in Europe.

The MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme encourages researchers to gain experience beyond academia. To support this aim, fellows can add six months at the end of their placement to gain work experience with a non-academic organisation in Europe.

MSCA Doctoral Networks for Developing Research Skills

In addition to Postdoctoral Fellowships, there are other funding opportunities under the MSCA. From 28 May 2025, applications can also be submitted for MSCA Doctoral Networks. These networks allow consortia made up of universities, research institutes, companies, and other non-academic organisations across Europe to collaborate in fostering research talent and enhancing career prospects. Three formats are available:

  • Doctoral Networks (DN)
  • Industrial Doctorates (DN-ID)
  • Joint Doctorates (DN-JD)

Applications for the MSCA Doctoral Networks can be submitted until 25 November 2025. If selected, your consortium will receive funding to support three-year PhD projects and associated project management activities.
