New Horizon Europe call opened: € 188 Million available for clean mobility research projects
The European Commission has opened a new call for project proposals under Horizon Europe, offering € 188 million in funding for pioneering research in clean mobility. The call is part of the 2025 Work Programme for Cluster 5, which focuses on energy, climate action and mobility innovation. Deadline for submission is on 20 January 2026.
What projects are eligible for funding?
Your project is eligible for funding if it fits within one of the focus areas listed below. Each focus area has its own topics and budgets. A total of 16 different topics have been defined:
- Cross-sectoral solutions for the climate transition – 4 topics (HORIZON-CL5-2026-01-D2)
- Clean and competitive solutions for all transport modes – 1 topic (HORIZON-CL5-2026-01-D5)
- Safe, resilient transport and smart mobility services for passengers and goods – 11 topics (HORIZON-CL5-2026-01-D6)
What are important conditions that you should meet?
The most important conditions to be eligible for Horizon Europe funding include having a consortium of at least three independent organisations from three different eligible countries (with at least one partner from an EU Member State), submitting a complete application before the deadline, and ensuring that all partners have the operational and financial capacity to undertake the project tasks.
Key eligibility requirements
- A consortium is typically required, consisting of at least three independent organisations from three different EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries; one partner must be from an EU Member State.
- All types of legal entities can apply, including universities, research institutions, SMEs, NGOs, and others, provided they have the operational and financial capacity to implement the project.
- The application must be submitted electronically and must adhere fully to the structure and instructions specified in the submission forms.
- The application must be completed before the call deadline and contain all mandatory annexes, supporting documents, and fulfill any page limits set for submissions.
- The consortium must designate a project coordinator who acts as the main contact point for the European Research Executive Agency.
