CEF Digital Submarine Cable Repair Capacities: € 40 million to strengthen Europe’s critical digital infrastructure
The European Commission has launched a new CEF Digital Submarine Cable Repair Capacities. With a total budget of € 40 million, the call aims to strengthen Europe’s capacity to rapidly repair submarine communication cables during emergencies, enhancing the resilience and security of the EU’s digital infrastructure. Applications are open until 8 October 2026.
Strengthening Europe’s submarine cable resilience
Submarine communication cables form the backbone of international data traffic. Disruptions to this infrastructure can have significant consequences for digital connectivity, the economy and security across Europe. Through this CEF Digital call, the European Commission is therefore investing in additional repair capacities for submarine communication cables that can be rapidly deployed in the event of emergencies.

This funding opportunity is particularly relevant for organisations active in the fields of:
- Digital infrastructure;
- Telecommunications and communication networks;
- Maritime services;
- Cable management and maintenance;
- Public infrastructure and European cooperation.
Collaborative projects that contribute to a faster and more effective deployment of submarine cable repair capacities are well aligned with the objectives of this call.
Which areas are eligible?
The call focuses on the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and other European sea basins. Funding is available for adaptable repair modules that will be strategically positioned to serve these sea basins.
This new call builds on a pilot call launched earlier this year, which allocated € 20 million to strengthen repair capacities in the Baltic Sea. Later in 2026, the European Commission is expected to publish an additional CEF Digital call focusing on the establishment of new Regional Cable Hubs in sea basins not yet covered, as well as the expansion of existing cooperation initiatives.
