Chips JU 2026 launched new calls for Europe’s nano-electronic chip technologies
The Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) has launched a new series of calls for research and innovation projects in semiconductors, chip design and the European semiconductor industry, with a total budget of € 300 million. Organisations can now submit project proposals under a range of topics within both pillars: Chips for Europe Initiative and ECS R&I. The new funding opportunities support companies, research organisations and other stakeholders that contribute to a stronger, more innovative and resilient European semiconductor ecosystem.
New funding opportunities for the European semiconductor ecosystem
The new calls aim to accelerate the development of strategic technologies that strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty and global competitiveness. The funding opportunities focus on areas including:
- research and innovation projects across the full Electronic Components and Systems (ECS) value chain;
- scaling up European manufacturing capacity for power electronics;
- advancing photonics technologies;
- innovative healthcare applications;
- 6G front-end modules;
- AI chips and European AI computing infrastructure;
- skills development, chip design and international collaboration within the European semiconductor ecosystem.
Depending on the topic, the indicative EU contribution ranges from € 5 million to € 70 million. Several calls are complemented by national co-funding schemes, enabling participating countries to provide additional financial support to successful applicants.
What are the Chips JU deadlines in 2026?
Most of the new calls opened on 7 July 2026. The submission deadlines vary by topic:
- 16 September 2026 for several resilience calls, including power electronics, photonics, health and 6G;
- 17 September 2026 for the ECS Global Innovation Action (IA) and Research and Innovation Action (RIA) calls;
- 23 and 24 September 2026 for several Chips for Europe Initiative calls, including AI, skills and international collaboration.
