5th CEF Energy CB RES call launched for renewable energy projects
On 2 September, CINEA published the 5th CEF Energy call for projects seeking Cross-Border Renewable Energy Sources (CB RES) status. These cross-border collaborations aim to strengthen Europe’s renewable energy infrastructure and drive a more resilient, sustainable energy system. Applications are open until 5 February 2026.
CEF Energy CB RES status
The CB RES window is part of the wider CEF Energy programme, designed to promote cross-border cooperation. To qualify, projects must demonstrate that international collaboration achieves greater cost savings than implementation within a single Member State. Eligible initiatives include:
- Development of infrastructure for the generation and transmission of renewable energy;
- Energy storage solutions;
- Grid interconnections;
- IT systems supporting energy networks.
Obtaining CB RES status is a vital gateway to EU funding for both preparatory studies and construction works. The status also increases EU-level visibility, strengthens support from Member States, and enhances investor confidence.
Virtual info day: 23 September 2025
CINEA will host a virtual information day on 23 September 2025, offering guidance on the full application and evaluation process, programme requirements, and practical tips for preparing a strong proposal. Interested parties can register online to participate.
Innovative renewable energy since 2021
Since the launch of CB RES in 2021, more than € 91 million has been awarded to 14 pioneering renewable energy projects ranging from offshore wind and sustainable biomass to hybrid solutions.
